We Answer Your Frequently Asked Dental Questions
Also known as gum disease, periodontal disease is an active and progressive bacterial infection that destroys the gums, periodontal ligament, and jaw bone.
A prophylaxis cleaning is a regular preventive cleaning for patients who do not have a history of periodontal disease. Periodontal maintenance cleanings are performed on patients who have been treated for periodontal disease, as a greater amount of tooth surface needs to be cleaned both above and below the gum line. The goal of periodontal maintenance is to stop the progression of gum disease and maintain the health of the gums.

Dental radiographs help us see decay and other conditions that lie beneath the surface of your teeth and gums. X-rays are vital in the diagnosis of gum disease, tooth decay, and cysts, tumors, and abscesses within bone tissue.
Bleeding is a sign of gingivitis and/or periodontitis and is usually accompanied by red, puffy gums resulting from a build-up of bacteria and plaque. Bleeding gums usually indicate a need to change your oral hygiene techniques, brush and floss more frequently, and maintain regular visits with our office.
